The oilseed Camelina sativa was genetically engineered to produce eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic (DHA) at levels similar fish oil (FO), which we tested as a lipid source in diets for rainbow trout. Three experimental were tested, FO control, low‐level transgenic camelina (LCO) diet (no with 12.5 g/kg camelina), high‐level (HCO) 130 g/kg camelina). Trout (initial weight 49.8 ± 11 g/fish) fed 12 weeks evaluated growth performance, fatty content (muscle, liver, brain, eye), sensory properties of fillets. final lengths weights LCO HCO higher compared FO. There no differences gain, condition factor, specific rate, feed intake, conversion ratio. EPA muscle tissue the diet. Compound‐specific stable isotope analysis revealed that trout stored isotopically enriched DHA lighter HCO. fillets from treatment firmer texture had orange intensity group.
